WE’RE TURNING A nu-LEAF

When we started nu-in in 2019, we set out with a bold mission to create a force for change towards ethical and sustainable fashion, and this will never change.

But we’ve made some mistakes along the way and learnt valuable lessons. We remain steadfast in our sustainability ambitions and pledge to constantly improve our business to the benefit of our beautiful planet.

We can’t succeed without your help, so join us this week by committing to Green Fashion practices and as an added incentive, we will give you 60% off our green fashion purchase, plus a free gift for every new customer signing up.

WHAT WE PLEDGE:

WE PLEDGE TO PUT OUR PLANET FIRST, FROM THE FIRST STEP TO THE LAST.

We pledge to put our planet first, from the first step to the last.

On average, 80% of the environmental impact from the production of clothes comes in the choice of material. We will continue to work closely with our factories to develop more sustainable materials and we currently use a variety of recycled, organic, and regenerated fabrics.

Even our packaging is made from sustainable resources like FSC certified cardboard, and we will also be introducing compostable polybags.

WE PLEDGE TO BE ETHICAL AND KIND TO PEOPLE AND ANIMALS.

We are committed to help create jobs both internally and externally through our supply chain and logistics partners. We will make sure that all our partners share our values for the working conditions and salaries of their staff.

We’re PETA approved VEGAN. No animals have been, or will be harmed in the manufacturing of our products and we feel it’s important to be clear on this and stand firm on our mission going forward.

WE PLEDGE TO BE PRECIOUS ABOUT WATER.

We pledge to be precious about water.

The world bank estimates that at least 20% of water pollution comes from textile dyeing. Added to that, one t-shirt from crop to shop uses around 2,700 litres of water, the equivalent of what one person drinks in 2.5 years.

We are committed to using lower impact certified fabrics to ensure that no harmful toxins are introduced into the environment and to reduce water usage in two highly impactful ways.

The first being, we always try to use recycled material which needs almost no water to become a new high quality material; secondly, in the production process, we work with factories who have the latest water saving washing technology, combined reducing water usage as much as 95%.

WE PLEDGE TO PROMOTE SLOW (CONSCIOUS) FASHION.

We pledge to promote slow (conscious) fashion.

We are committed to provide the antidote to fast fashion. The notion of buying clothes that are trendy for a season and then discarded is not sustainable. That is why our collections are designed to match with everything and last for many years to come.

Although we understand the need to clear stock and make space for new collections, we do not condone flash sales that encourage impulse buying of items that may not be needed or wanted and therefore discarded. So, while we will give our loyal customers the opportunity to buy older stock at reduced prices, we cannot state enough the importance of double checking the size chart, and taking the time to consider whether you really want to buy the item rather than buying it just because it’s on sale.

WE PLEDGE TO PASS ON TO THOSE IN NEED.

We pledge to pass on to those in need.

Returns come at a massive logistical cost and increases our carbon footprint. We have worked hard on standardizing our sizes and improved our size charts to ensure you can order your perfect fit and avoid unnecessary returns.

If you ordered an incorrect size we therefore encourage you to pass on the item instead of returning it, and in the unlikely event that an item arrives damaged, we welcome your return and commit to repairing the item and will donate it to a worthy cause to ensure it doesn’t end up in a landfill.

We pledge to send less to landfill.

We pledge to send less to landfill.

Every second one garbage truck full of clothes is dumped, ready to be burned or destroyed in landfills across the world.

We use a lot of recycled materials in our clothes which slows down the process of materials being thrown away and gives them another life, however... only 1% off all textile production is made using recycled materials.

By committing to send less to landfill and use more recycled materials, we save on energy consumption, water usage and the dyeing process. It also helps reduce the use of virgin fibres.

WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP:

• DONATE, DO NOT RETURN.

Returning a product that doesn’t fit you comes at a cost and increases that product’s carbon footprint. Consider donating that item instead and help nu-in to create a culture of passing on clothing by using the hashtag #nuleaf to inspire others to do the same.

• CHECK YOUR SIZE BEFORE YOU CHECK OUT.

Buying a product that you are not going to wear is wasteful on the environment and a waste of your money. We want to help you avoid that at all cost. That’s why we have worked hard to standardise our sizing across manufacturers and have improved the size charts on our product pages to help you pic the perfect fit – so measure twice, buy once.

• PASS DOWN AND CYCLE UP!

Our collections are designed to fit with everything and to be worn season after season, but if you do need to make space in your wardrobe, don’t throw away, because “away” is a landfill and it doesn’t have space for it either. Pass it on to someone who can wear it all over again.
